After two hours of online meeting, the organizing committee of the Premier League had the decision. Twenty Premier League clubs agreed to play the remaining nine rounds.
Before the April 17 afternoon meeting of the Premier League, there were many concerns. One of them is that the tournament could not be restarted because of Covid-19. This may lead to the risk of affecting the 2020-2021 season. However, the pressure from a deficit of more than one billion dollars, if the season ends early. This brings the parties soon to come to an agreement on the commitment to complete the season.
Comments ending the season before June 30, as a commitment to ensure integrity for the 2019-2020 season, were not raised during the meeting. According to The Sun, the organizers and the clubs will wait patiently until the Government agrees for the sporting events to take place.
Another outstanding issue is that the player contract, which expires on June 30, is not mentioned. The damage from failing to finish the season with all 20 Premier League clubs is much bigger. The cost of using the player in a few months is less, if a contract dispute arises. The top group suffered the most losses. In particular, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham estimate each team will lose over $ 100 million.
Earlier, FIFA also announced that it would side with current host clubs when recommending players to continue playing until the end of the 2019-2020 season.
The UK Government’s point of view
The UK Government’s social extension directive remains in effect until May 7. The number of deaths from Covid-19 in the UK has reached over 12,000. Even when the Premier League starts over and plays in an unpopular courtyard, the live broadcast of the remaining 92 matches, including those played during the summer, is not guaranteed. Television royalties tournaments, therefore, will be affected.
In the First Division, the organizers have sent an open letter to 24 clubs, which recommends not to return to the training ground before May 16.
